Keep Records Of Your Personal Property

If you’ve had a loss to your personal property, you were asked to provide proof of what was lost. Chances are you no longer had the receipt or it was destroyed along with the property. Many people have not gotten all of the money due to them after a loss because they simply didn’t remember what they owned. The best way to protect yourself would be to photograph or videotape all of your belongings and keep the photos seperate from your home or apartment such as in a safe deposit box or at a relative’s home. This way, you will be able to provide the claims adjuster a record of your television, clothing, silerware, etc. It is a good idea to update your photos every so often to be certain that your new property is included. Most of us buy our clothing piecemeal; it would be expensive if you would have to replace your entire wardrobe all in one day. Take a photo of all your stuff and put the photos in a safe place. This will provide the records should you ever need to submit a claim on you insurance. Go to www.knowyourstuff.org. Put together by the Insurance Information Institute, this is a very easy to use downloaded software program that just about does it all for you.
